On the morning of May 12, the 2018 construction of the Yangtze River Waterway 

Dredging and Maintenance Project (the dredging and maintenance of the 12.5m

deepwater waterway below Nantong (Tianshen Port) was held in Nanjing. Yangtze 

River Waterway Bureau Dredging and Maintenance Office, Audit Office, Navigational 

Standards Office, Yangtze River Waterway Regulation Center, Archives Center, Yangtze

River Nanjing Waterway Bureau and Yangtze River Waterway Planning and Design

Institute, China Communications Wuhan Harbor Engineering Design and Research 

Institute Co., Ltd., Yangtze River Nanjing Waterway Engineering Bureau, Representatives

of Nanjing Gongzheng Engineering Supervision Co., Ltd. and other units attended 

the meeting.

At the meeting, the design unit elaborated the design idea of the project. The construction

unit introduced the start-up situation of the maintenance project and the key points of the 

nextstep project management work. The supervision unit reported the preparation work,

requirements and the next stage of the supervision work. Other participants put forward 

clear requirements on the safety, quality, progress, cost, environmental protection, 

archives of the dredging maintenance project.

Gao Kaichun, Director of Dredging and Conservation Office of Yangtze River Waterway 

Bureau, requested the participating parties to change work ideas and work functions 

from the perspectives of the purpose, significance, and value of the market-oriented reform 

of dredging maintenance projects by using silt curtains, and learned from the dynamic management, process 

control, and other aspects of dredging in the deepwater channels of the Yangtze River, 

management mechanism and experience, he required the people to carry out a standardized,

efficient and accurate manner, and comprehensively and systematically work, and implement 

the major measures for the market-oriented reform of the dredging and maintenance of the 

Yangtze River fairway.

It is reported that the convening of the meeting was marked the official start of the marketization 

of the maintenance dredging of the fairway in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
